Which accounts have breakdown cover?
Our Platinum bank accounts come with UK breakdown cover. Our Black bank accounts come with UK and European breakdown cover.
Do I legally need car breakdown?
No, you're not legally required to have car breakdown cover however it's good to know who to call when you're stranded. It could also save you money on emergency call out charges.
Why is car breakdown cover important?
It ensures you're not left standing at the roadside. It gives peace of mind that someone will come and help you complete your journey. Policies can cover cars, motorbikes, and caravans.
What's included with my car breakdown cover?
We have a range of cover across our packaged bank accounts. Specific eligibility criteria and fees apply.

The AA can help when you break down or are involved in an accident.
Common problems that may cause a breakdown include:
- Flat tyres.
- Flat battery.
- Misfuelling.
- Mechanical or electrical failure.
- Theft or attempted theft.
- Accidental or malicious damage.
- Running out of fuel.
- Losing or breaking your vehicle keys.
- Road accident.
Things to remember
- You’ll have unlimited callouts, though repeat callouts for the same fault within 28 days won’t be covered.
- Doesn't cover any repair costs once the insured vehicle has been transported to a garage or repairer.
- Doesn't cover the cost of replacement keys.
- The AA can help you complete your journey by arranging a replacement vehicle, booking you a night's accommodation or funding alternative transport costs (i.e. rail fares) where appropriate.
- All vehicles must meet legal requirements - insured, taxed and with a valid MOT.
- All vehicles must be within 3.5 tonnes, no wider than 2.55m.
- For Black account customers in Europe, vehicles must be no longer than 7m or higher than 3m. Motorbikes under 200cc are not covered.

Roadside Assistance, At Home and National Recovery are provided by Automobile Association Developments Limited (trading as AA Breakdown Services). Onward Travel and European Cover is underwritten by Acromas Insurance Company Limited.

UK car breakdown cover, including Roadside Assistance, At Home, National Recovery and Onward Travel.
- You’re covered as a driver or passenger in any privately registered vehicle you travel in throughout the UK.
- Anyone driving or travelling in your vehicle is covered too.
- Your breakdown cover automatically begins once your account has been changed, this can take up to 48 hours after you apply.

To apply for a Reward Platinum you must be an existing NatWest current account customer. £22 monthly fee. Select Platinum can't be applied for.
Reward Black and Black account
UK & European car breakdown cover, including Roadside Assistance, At Home, National Recovery and Onward Travel.
- You’re covered as a driver or passenger in any privately registered vehicle you travel in throughout the UK.
- Anyone driving or travelling in your vehicle is covered too.
- Your privately registered UK vehicle is also covered in Europe.
- Your breakdown cover automatically begins once your account has been changed, this can take up to 48 hours after you apply.
Are you an existing Premier customer? Manage your benefits.
To apply for a Reward Black you must be an existing NatWest current account customer and meet one of the following criteria: have a minimum £100k sole income or £120k joint income paid into your NatWest account, or £500k minimum mortgage borrowing with us, or minimum £100k savings or investments held with us. £36 monthly fee. Black account can't be applied for.

Common questions about our car breakdown cover
Switch to NatWest
The Current Account Switch Service will do all the work when it comes to switching, moving everything across from your old account to your new account all within 7 working days, including Direct Debits and standing orders. All you need to do is tell us the details of your old bank account and when you want the Switch to start.
We can not switch savings accounts or ISAs through this service. Any other products you have with your old bank will not be moved at the same time.
